He is known most notably for runner up the fifth season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar, the German version of Pop Idol. In the summer of 2007, he appeared as candidate in the casting show Pop Idol. In the motto shows the viewers chose him to the finals, where he was on 17 May 2008 against Thomas Godoj in Grand Finale. With a caller rate of 37.8% Maalouf finally won the second place.
